Cuban men and women chess teams won again in round 8 at the 39th World Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansyisk. Men defeated Iran and women defeated Russia3.
Cuban team beat Iranians 3-2 and climbed from 13th to 10th place. Women beat Russia3 3.5-0.5 and climbed from 11th to 7th place.
Leinier Dominguez, 2 716 ELO, and Lazaro Bruzon, 2 679 ELO, the first two Cuban boards, drew Ehsan Ghaem Maghami, 2 594 ELO, and Elshan Moradiabadi, 2 578 ELO, respectively. While Yuniesky Quesada, 2 614 ELO, and Holden Hernandez, 2 563 ELO, won their matches.
Quesada defeated Morteza Mahjoob, 2 529 ELO, and Hernandez defeated Homayoon Toufighi, 2 499 ELO.
